imagesRemember, we don’t create history anymore. As Veterans, we now simply record it for posterity and try to help the youngsters avoid repeating the mistakes of the past. Member Bruce, who isn’t even from the land of the fruits , nuts and enlightened ones, sends us this utterance from Senator Diane ‘turn in your guns’ Feinstein. Oddly, Diane is one of those rare, mentally stable souls who is entrusted with a concealed weapons permit in San Francisco. Try getting one even if you never served. From the admittedly left-leaning Los Angeles fishwrap…

Dianne Feinstein: “All vets are mentally ill in  some way                                      and  government should prevent them from owning firearms”

Yep, – she really said  it on Thursday in a meeting in front of the  Senate  Judiciary Committee. ..and the quote below from the LA Times is priceless. Columnist Burt Prelutsky opines…

“Frankly, I don’t know what it is about  California , but we seem to  have a strange urge to elect  really obnoxious women to high office. I’m not bragging, you  understand, but no other state, including  Maine , even  comes close. When it comes to sending left-wing dingbats  to  Washington , we’re Number One. There’s no getting around  the fact  that the last time anyone saw the likes of Barbara Boxer, Dianne  Feinstein, Maxine Waters, and Nancy Pelosi,  they were stirring a  cauldron when the curtain went up on ‘Macbeth’.

The four of them are like  jackasses who happen to possess the gift  of blab. You don’t  know if you should condemn them for their stupidity or  simply marvel at their ability to form words.”

Should you have the burning desire to contact this erudite, gentlewoman and share your sentiments, we dutifully attach her info here.  https://www.feinstein.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/e-mail-me

Once again GOP fiction, never said. http://www.snopes.com/politics/guns/feinstein.asp The GOP continues to plant fake stories and you guys eat it up.

    • asknod says:

Well, thanks Bob. You are entirely correct. Semantically speaking, she did not use that phrase above and I’m rather surprised, knowing how unbalanced she is, that she has not taken the reporter to task and sued the pants off of him.
However, what she did say is equally damning and untrue. How, pray tell. do Vets identify themselves to the VA when submitting a claim? A buddy statement? No, they have a document that says “guard this well. You may need it for benefits.” Snopes says:
      In response,
“Senator Feinstein stated neither that “all vets are mentally ill” nor that “the government should prevent [veterans] from owning firearms”; that (sic) claim is a highly exaggerated paraphrase of her remarks. What Feinstein did do was express her opinion that creating an exemption in an assault weapons ban (not a general firearms ban) for retired military personnel might was (sic) inadvisable due to both the prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among that group and the difficulty of verifying that a potential gun purchaser was in fact a veteran, and that the proposed amendment should therefore include a provision for screening out “mentally incapacitated” veterans:
When rebutting the truth, always rebut with facts and not generalities. We thank you for correcting the actual record and the expressed phraseology, but the gist of her remark was that :
      a) The NICS system is not up to the task of identifying Vets (not to mention Vets suffering PTSD) and there are no provisions in the proposed law to fix this anomaly. (false)
      b) PTSD is endemic in the military, and hence, the Vet population (false)
      c) It is a recent phenomenon of the Iraq War (false)
      d) There is no mention of the concommitant PTSD in the civilian police force (who are exempted and suffer to the tune of 18% in their own ranks) (unaddressed)
When one exhibits their ignorance on history so completely and has a storied history of trying erase the 2nd Amendment from the Bill of Rights, I think it is incumbent to include those niggling little details in the rebuttal. But hey. There are some who desperately want to do away with private ownership of guns. Period. Some even resort to “Executive powers” to deprive those who “cling to their guns and their religion” and try to usurp the power of the ballot box. Nevertheless, we value accuracy here and it is obvious she was misquoted. We apologize to you and her both for the inaccuracy. With citizens like you we sleep better at night knowing the truth will out.
