HCV and Pain–VA’s Own Study

Gee, what else have these guys been up to and burying out back of the hospital? Here’s ammo for that claim from none other than the very Bozos who will tell you there’s

1) No conclusive studies on the subject

2) No correlation via definitive medical studies

3) You’re barking up the wrong tree.

Thank you to Member Kelly from that place John Denver immortalized back east. It’s people just like you that give us all we need to spank the vA and prove they make no effort to help us in our quest for SC. Why would they? Conversely, why should they? If they do, it’ll cost them. Elementary, huh? Notice this study was conducted in November of 2007?

It’s not a conspiracy. It’s simply “non-dissemination of information.” Since when was that a crime? Sometimes you have go afield as Kel did if you want the truth.

    SquidlyOne,
YES, you should indeed include anxiety AND depression. Although the VA lumps all “mental Health” conditions as a single rating, it adds to the overall picture. And even if you do the IFN and become “cured”, it wont “cure” your secondary conditions i.e. depression, DMII, Slepp Apnea, FM etc..

This is a great contribution. It looks like these journals are free access and archived here:

    There’s probably more useful reports.

Viruses–in the movies. I saw the DVD Contagion in a Redbox rental machine and looked at the trailer online. It’s about a bird-flu virus that spreads quickly (dirty hands?) and kills quickly. I’ve read that HCV lives on the hands of HCW in dialysis workers. I’m going to have to rent this.

Opps again, I don’t know why this embeds the link instead of just linking to it. You tube should give an option.

Kinda tough to know what ailments you have when the VA won’t test you because then they have to treat and then they have to pay out for the secondaries.I would like to know how to claim the secondaries,,,,just getting SC for the HCV is the hurdle from the way I read it here….

The rationale here at this VAMC is to just take the damn INF treatment and get out of their hair. My medical team has no intentions of assessing my liver damage or even screening me for the risks of INF. Their mantra is that once you take the awesome INF drug that you will be cured and all of your other problems will disappear along with the hep. My liver enzymes are now both over 500 and climbing along with the iron and proteins in my blood. My platelet count is in the dumpster. I am sick as hell. I am seeing a shrink for the anxiety caused by all of this PAIN and suffering. Should I try to hammer the anxiety in as a secondary to the hep?

Yes, You should. Dysthemia or Depression is a recognized secondary of HCV. Some have categorized it as MDD or Major Depressive Disorder. VA cannot blame you for not being able to name it specifically because (TAA-DAA!)-you are not a doctor as they are oh so happy to remind you of in the denial.

I think quite a few Veterans will have to re-think their claims. Plueral Neuropothy aint just for breakfast anymore… or restricted to DM2. Or fybromyalgia… or….
