Sunday evening–shutdown woes

Here we go again.  The last shutdown rested with the GOP tea party.  Now it’s the Dems refusing to fund the CR because of their Dreamers cause, as Sen. Blumenthal recently spoke to.

Last night I did my civic duty and emailed Senators Sanders (I) and Leahy (D) and gave them my views with an emphasis on the negative impact shutdowns have on veterans and the active military.

The Senate is in session, live on C-span (LINK);  Senators McConnell and Schumer have been meeting.  No “deal,” but there may be a vote tonight anyway.  It will take 60 votes to pass a short term funding bill.  Trump will either sign or veto a bill if they send him one.

They all speak with weasel words.

Well, we’re not supposed to engage in partisan politics here–there is too much of that going on in D.C..  But your/our influence counts so whatever your opinion is–to fund the government short term (a yes vote), or not to (a no vote)–I would urge you to let your senators know your opinion on this shutdown via your senator’s official website contact form.  Your yays and nays will be counted, discussed, and archived.

The country shuts down for a weekend much like a National holiday the week prior and everyone has their panties in a knot. The IRS didn’t cease their labors. The USPS was up and running. The only ones who got the day off were…. ? The troops kept shooting-nary a check was missed unless they pay every other day. The Border patrol managed to keep Kim Jung Un at bay. Hawaii wasn’t nuked. Honestly, I didn’t even see the sky falling. Nevertheless, doom and gloom was forecast. Move along. There’s nothing to see, folks.

How do you know Trump Lying? When he Tweets.

“And we’ve got someone who talks like Tony Soprano in the WH.”

IMO, Tony was *much* more articulate than “someone.”.

“These are most bitter days, and yet, as our leaders stand revealed, we see not evil men but shallow and pathetic men. The final charge against these men, I think, will not be their shabby deals, their frantic cover-ups. No, it will be simply that having been given the extraordinary power to make life better in this nation and the world, they scarcely tried. And to justify their selfishness, their paltry goals, they told us there was no dream, no moral cause, forget about generosity and love. Their message was to grab what you can and run. Let them run now, and let us see if we can make something grow in the desert they have left behind.”

Karen, I did hear about that. I can’t take stand any of them. Both parties have engaged in secret domestic spying on citizens (texts, emails, etc..)

The Constitution is under serious attack but we still have the power of the vote. The “two party system” is not serving us. It serves the oligarchs. It’s almost like a coup has already happened. And we’ve got someone who talks like Tony Soprano in the WH.

The offshore wealth is at least coming back to the US– “Apple announced on Wednesday that it would pay $38 billion in taxes to the federal government as it brings cash earned overseas into the United States.” And that’s just one company. Even if companies keep funds offshore, they still have to pay a tax (new, lower) and that is a huge reform which should help.
But I am afraid for our country.

  6. Karen S says:

Do you realize that a bill was proposed to get military pay funded? AND McConnell shut it down? Oh, we aren’t supposed to be political? Hmm? How much do the Republicans REALLY care about US military? They ONLY care about the military machine and lining their pockets with gold. As far as lips moving and lying, aren’t Trump’s fingers tried from tweeting all his lies yet? The stock market has gone up and the country has gone to hell. Oh yes, the rich are even richer. DISGUSTING! Signed by Two 100% Disabled Vets,

I’d be more than happy to let my senators know how I feel about this. BUT, BUT, letting both Lamar
Alaxander and Bob Corker know how i feel is like urinating into a bottle with a cork in it. Beside that they are both worthless–in my opinion and we all know what to compare opinions to–and they neither one have any contact anymore with the public.
ON top of that, a phrase was I guess invented when Bill Clinton was in the White House in the 90’s. How do you know when a politician is lying???
Answer: When his lips are moving.”

“How is a prostitute better than a politician?
They both lie to you. They both tell you that they love you. They both will put their hands into your pockets to steal from you, but the prostitute actually does what you pay her to do.”
