Great. You think you’re out of the woods and then you realize the effects of 80 weeks of Interferon have wiped out the tumor suppressor genes and you now are developing a ripsnorting good case of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. What else could go wrong? Well, apparently a lot, cowboy. Killing the HCV that old way is proving to be hazardous to your long term health. Go figure. That’s why you did it in the first place.
We tend to ignore our bodies after we finally slay the dragon. This article sent to me by Smoke explains it all. It’s a little pedantic but just do the Evelyn Woods speed-reading trick and look for the polysyllabic medicine words like Mixed Cryoglobulinemia (MC) type II. I guess I’m headed for the NHL rocks if all this is true. I have a raging case of Cryo and my PCT almost ensures HCC (66%). Some guys have all the luck, huh?
The only humor in all this is when I go to the doctor. They look down my problems list and then look at me with the “And you’re still alive? Tell me. What’s your secret?” Well shucks. Add three parts of “I hate the VA and mix it with 23 years of wait. Pour into ice-cold glass of indifference and stir with contempt. Serves one widow still waiting.

and they still deny everything that comes across their desks? I hope they burn in hell.
THEY WILL
Is this only if treated with INF or does this also refer to cure with new meds?
IFN is the culprit. Sofosbuvir is a polymerase inhibitor and does not attack the immune system. It interrupts the reproductive cycle of the virus. More IFN TX = ^ risk of B-NHL and autoimmune disorders. But we kinda knew that, huh?
Since IFN is a powerful cancer drug, initially, there was not a good deal known about it other than the fact that cancer patients were a good deal more sick after their treatments. Along came a “researcher” and decided that they could experiment with HCV patients and there ya go. Sick to start with, sicker through “treatment and feeling worse afterwards. Does not sound like advances to me. Look at the supposed cure rates and see what you think.
Shoot , bubba. The same guy sold this to the Cancer crowd. Lots died. They cut the dose in half and tried it on HIV. Only half the HIV dudes died. Finally they came knocking on the Hepatitis clinic’s door. We got hosed and VA is STILL trying to sell it knowing Sofosbuvir is right around the corner. Nobody wants to be left holding the bag with a big supply of it.
Well Jeez NOD they were running low on guinea pigs and won the lottery. I mean here sat all of those pesky Vets with their hands out whining and such. The only fun part is the hamster wheel.
No matter how you slice it, they know the truth but it would way too expensive right now to fess up. Perhaps when hades does experience a never before seen cold front we might see change.
Just great. At least afflicted Vietnam vets–with or without HCV–can speed file if they come down with this under AO.
