HOMELESS VETS STILL WAITING IN LINE

Member Shawn found this and it makes my skin crawl. This is a quote that should give everyone of us pause.

Tragically, every year more than 6,500 Veterans voluntarily surrender their lives … victims of bureaucratic battle fatigue.

Their solace is found in Plato’s prophetic claim more than 2,500 years ago: “Only the dead have seen the end of war.”

It is estimated that since the Vietnam War ended, more Vietnam Veterans have committed suicide than the 58,272 who were killed during the War.

The death toll amongst homeless Vietnam Veterans will continue to climb as more commit suicide, overdose on VA drugs, are murdered, or die of hardship and old age while fighting against the domestic enemy.

How can Congress live with itself? How could anyone recess and go on vacation with this sitting in the in-basket?  It’s a sobering article to me as I am an integral part of that era. I came very close to homelessness within a year of my return from SEA.

I was homeless for two long ass months and lived out of my vehicle and a tent. “Why did that happen”, you ask? In Feb 2011, I went to a new VA clinic in Owensboro, KY. I brought my VA documents and medical files with me for my first meeting with the Doctor there. I moved from the Lexington area to Owensboro to be close to my 5 year old daughter, since being divorced. The doc didn’t look at my files in that 20 minute discussion, he just asked, why was I there, what do I expect, and what do I hope to achieve? The next day at 8am the police were at my door. They asked where my ex wife was, where my child is, and can we come in to look around. The reason was that the VA Doc looked over my notes and found that I wanted to take my daughter away from my ex cheating wife and never to be seen again. To make a long story short, I was divorced from my wife because of my PTSD (Panic Attacks & Anxiety). She found an old boyfriend on Face book (she later married after the divorce was final). She took my daughter with her. I lost my job that same year because of getting in a physical confrontation with my ex-wife’s attorney. So, I went to jail on assault charge and had my visitation time with my daughter stopped all together because of it. No job, lost my home, supervised visits with my daughter, and the VA doesn’t care. I reported the Doc to the area main VA in Marion IL, I got a report back that the Doc was correct to call the law and have the child services contacted. The Doc has a duty to warn the community of a possible attack on their citizens, I was told. Hell, the notes were a year old and had the date on them. This Doc never called me to come in, he never called me to possibly discuss how old the notes were at all. So, after not finding work because of my assault charge, not having $50.00 an hour to see my daughter, getting ripped off from a scam college (Daymar College) http://wkyufm.org/post/lawsuit-against-owensboro-based-daymar-college-be-heard-daviess-county
I have no money left over to afford anything after my disability check. I have been sleeping on an air mattress, sitting in a folding chair and use used plates /pot and pans from Goodwill. Attorneys took all the money that I have because of legal fees to get help with seeing my daughter. Credit is shot to hell and creditors send letters all the time because I am late. So, I said to hell with this sh** and packed up and left. (I did however give a 2 weeks’ notice to the landlord) I tried to save money while living in the National Parks. I moved from time to time and found other people homeless. I was angry and full of anxiety. My family can’t understand things, the VA gives me a Therapist that never helps, and the only reason I stayed alive was for my daughter whom I hardly ever see.
