Member Randy spotted this article this AM. The typical blame game at 810 Vermont Ave. NW is now vA’s position on the subject. If Vets would quit filing claims for so many ailments, they wouldn’t have these problems. Sounds to me like Vets as a class of intelligent humans have taken it up a notch. They discovered they can file for injuries.
The best fib of all is this:
All of this adds up to more disability claims, which for years have been coming in faster than the government can handle them. The average wait to get a new one processed grows longer each month and is now about eight months — time that a frustrated, injured veteran might spend with no income.
Eight months? That’s how long it takes to get a letter from them that acknowledges you have submitted a claim. Sixteen months would be more like it for a hangnail- if it was in the SMRs. Here we thought there was something in the water at Camp Lejeune. We were off by about 250 miles to the north.
Veterans should not blame Allison Hickey for these pronouncements. She merely reads the script. We assume her heart really isn’t in it. Nobody could be that disingenuous, could they?

ADDENDUM to previous post: The person looking for a link mentioning vasculitis can go to HCSP version 6 dated May 2012 or Current Medicine, Inc., 2003 for more information. You will have to Google it because the article was quite extensive. Funny how the article, along with others, points toward a connection between Hep-C and DMII and Thyroid cancer and yet many doctors will not listen or even take the time to look at what you have so meticulously gathered for them. Hmmmm!
“As the nation commemorates the more than 6,400 troops who died in post-9/11 wars, the problems of those who survived also draw attention. These new veterans are seeking a level of help the government did not anticipate, and for which there is no special fund set aside to pay.”
Those tricky Veterans! How dare they get wounded in combat! A Vet who gets his brains scrambled in a Hum-Vee after running over an IED doesn’t really give a rip if the vA has a “special fund” to pay for his disability or not.
Do you think someone with a fairly simple SC disability claim, and the evidence needed to substantiate it, should they try using the ebenfits electronic application? VONAPP–Veteran’s Online Application. And upload documents to support the claim. Fewer pieces of paper to get lost permanently!
By all means. One thing that bothers me is that vA can always deny they received them. I like the Common Law Mailbox rule and USPS Form 3817 or the old tried and true CM3R mode. They cannot deny their own mail room employee’s signature which I have had occasion to call them on once. Old fashioned ways appeal to me like a fine weapon from a former age.
