Crohns, for any of you who are not knowledgeable, is an AI disease just like RA, Ulcerative Colitis, Cryoglobulinemia, Fibromyalgia, and a host of others. When a medical circular in a prescription starts discussing the patient in the third person, I infer that it was written for the edification of the treating physician. If I can digest this and figure it out, it follows that the doctor who prescribed it must be well aware of the side effects. Interferon jacks up the AI function in your body to attack anything that moves. Unfortunately, that included my own liver.
$533.00 a pop, ladies and gentlemen. Bring back any memories for any of you? Incidentally, I still have two of these I will part company with for a small pittance.

Yes my brain fog just cleared for a moment after reading this post. Shitforbrains doctor was here in CA in 1995. However you got the better-more convenient-way to fix up than I did. My poison came in a box with 2 little bottles. One bottle was powder and the other liquid. I demanded multible needle points because I had to mix the poison. I was last on the list to stick myself. This shit had to be refrigerated and the fortitude it took to stick myself was legendary. The printed material in the box print was so small I couldn’t read it. I used to get the shakes and tongue action after injecting it. This was OK according to the quack in my study. I asked-complained every friday about different symptoms but was told is was NORMAL. 3 times a week for 6 months. I was repeatedly told every friday I was making progress inspite of my whining. After the 6 month study expired for me I was kicked out of the study because I DID NOT RESPOND. I was never told my genotype was a 2b non-responder until years later. Other doctors opined to me that I was used as a test dummy for experimental treatment. Further more the quack doctor lying to me every week was part of the study! I think all interferon is poisonous. Yet I was talked into 2 more treatments (not studys) when the ribivirin mix became available in the late 90’s. Fool me once shame on you. Foll me twice shame on me. This site has opened my eyes to how we are treated and the reality of a briken VA system of deny deny deny. I have more to say but I know there are guys here worse off than me. I don’t want to insult or belittle any vet in their struggle for survival. We are in agreement of this killer poison and the life we now live with HCV. I hope all you vets out there have a better new year and win your claims against the VA.
Robert, when I say I became violently ill, that was a masterpiece of understatement. Shot @1030 hrs. Fever began @ 1430, left work and drove home (I don’t remember). I sat in my van for 45 min. shivering with the heat on in 75 deg. wx. Went inside and crawled into bed w/ extra blankets. My wife found me @ 1730 w/ fever of 101. Six Ibuprohen later it topped out @104.5 around 2330. I worked for 4 more months and had to quit forever. Read the circular that comes with it. I did the next day.
How about we track down the shitforbrains doctor and shove them where the sun don’t shine and release him from his stupidity?
I don’t carry grudges. They weigh too much. Besides, he gave me a priceless nexus letter and another for my P&T request. Revenge is a dish best served chilled (Shakespeare). VA’s is in the chest freezer.
Current numbers are 200,000. The IFN gave me autoimmune hepatitis from one shot. My liver is charcoal.
