DOTTIE’S LATEST POST

Member Dottie left this on my page for contacting me as a comment. It makes me very happy to see these show up. They are starting to appear far more frequently.

Just received news today that hep c is service connected at 30% …so it’s a win. Definitely having a nexus helps and haven’t been to the BVA yet.:)

That’s what we live for. maybe I can coax her into sending me the particulars to share with all you wonderful Veterans.

I guess I can tell you what i know. Found out from red Cross that he had hep c in 1998. He had been having problems with joints, gout, and stomach for years so in 2002 he talked to the VA about treatment. They sent him for a biopsy and he was G3,S3 but we had no idea what this was. Started bleeding large amounts in his urine and still no clue. In February of 2009, i filed for hep c because he had done two rounds of treatment with no reponse(1b) and they were talking about giving him another one. He had a variceal hemmorhage in May and almost died. Being the hysterical woman I called the VA and Congress from the hospital because we didn’t even know he was in end stage liver nor were we ever told he had cirrhosis. I told Congress I was calling the news team.:) I never stopped going to my Congresswoman and started reading everything a person could read on esld and hep c. Found hcvets and Harry told me to file an 1151 because it sounded like they had done something wrong. I did and the whole thing went backwards because i had no idea what I was doing and had no real explanation from our VSO. Got a nexus from a private doctor but it wasn’t done the way you explain..that was before I started reading your pages. Actually, I stayed right on top of the VA hospital by Congress and when they denied him a transplant because they said he had severe COPD..I called Congresswoman again. She called and they ordered a test from a specialist. Approved for transplant, had cancer in the liver and the transplant team got the Nexus from the VA hepatologist for us but he already had in his notes that there was exposure to bloody jet gun injections and combat blood exposure. we heard all the same stufff everyone else has, sex, drugs, etc; but we went 21/2 years with no c and p exam ordered. So i went back to Congress and had my daughter call also. This was after two denials and a form 9 just filed. Hired Carpenter as our attorney and he sent the nexus along with a favorable nexus from the VA examiner back to the raters. So now they stage rated it (not properly) but it can still go forward to appeals. Bottom line was we didn’t have a completed claim but kept moving forward and we refused to accept the first response. We realized that what we told the doctor is what went in his notes so we were able to get it in there. the injectors and exposure from combat. It is all verified anyway because he had gotten 2 purple hearts and CIB but it sure took a lot of noise to be heard
